Verdict in His Favor

Alternate Titles
  • Verdict in His Favor: This is the Rev. F. L. Shuttlesworth, a [African American] minister who is serving a 90-day jail sentence in Birmingham, Ala., on a charge of breach of the peace. Yesterday the Supreme Court directed that Alabama courts act within five days on the question of bail for Shuttlesworth. If the state courts deny bail or fail to act, Shuttlesworth will be free to take his case into federal district court.
