Checking on Vietnamization

Alternate Titles
  • Checking on Vietnamization: U.S. Secretary of Defense Melvin Laird shakes hands with a Vietnamese schoolboy during a visit Friday to the South Vietnamese village of An Hoa near the Cambodian border. The child holds a South Vietnamese flag. Laird, wearing army fatigues and carrying a black peaked cap, then left for a nearby military base which had been "Vietnamized" only two hours earlier by the withdrawal of the last U.S. combat troops. Laird is in Vietnam to study the progress of the Vietnamization program.
